The free-entry myth is dead
Half the internet still says St Mark’s is free. It isn’t. Since the ticketing reform, official entry is €10 on tickets.basilicasanmarco.it— that’s navé only. Worshippers can enter free for Mass or prayer via the side entrance, no sightseeing. Children under 11 are free with an adult. For everyone else: €10 buys you the floor, the domes, the high altar and time enough to look. That’s the deal.
One church, three ticket tiers
The €10 nave ticket does not include the Pala d’Oro — that’s €20 combined. The museum and Loggia dei Cavalli (the horses terrace) is also €10 extra, or €20 combined with Pala. A full ticket covering everything is €30. The Campanile bell tower stands separate on the Piazza; that’s €15 more and a different building entirely. Nobody explains this cleanly. Now you know.
