Photography Inside St Mark’s Basilica

Flash and tripods are forbidden; no-flash photography is allowed. Signage on the day governs. Do not photograph during services (weekday mornings, Sundays). The Loggia dei Cavalli terrace is always fair game.

The rules

No flash. No tripods. No photos during active worship (Mass, prayer services). Otherwise, no-flash photography is permitted. Bring a fast camera (or use your phone’s night mode) because the interior is low-lit. Photos of the mosaics from above (the Loggia) are unrestricted.

Insider tip

The most photographed moment is the Pala d’Oro (the golden altarpiece) in the afternoon 13:15 light. Book the €47 afternoon tour.

Frequently asked questions
